After reading my Ikea Shopping List for Teachers blog post, I want to show you the 10 Ikea classroom hacks finished. Learn how to complete the hacks, make the hacks, and what the Ikea classroom hacks look like inside the classroom. The hacks can be used in many different ways but here is an example of all 10 Ikea Classroom Hacks.
1. My favorite Ikea Classroom Hack: Tolsby Frame Flip Book
This is my favorite item at Ikea. These Tolsby Frames are $1 and can be used in many different ways. This Ikea classroom hack is not only the cheapest but most versatile item. I love to use them as flip books for my kids to grab when needed. Take out the clear 4 by 6 center and leave the space open in the middle. After printing out my anchor charts, laminating, and cutting them, I hole punched each one in the top corners. I place 1in binder rings around the top of the frame and into the holes. Students flip through charts when needing help. I have over 4o charts including letters, numbers, color words, a writing checklist, shapes, nouns, hundreds charts, and more!
2. Ikea Plant Stand
The Plant stand is the perfect way to store all those materials you aren’t sure what to do with or where to put. This Ikea classroom hack was the finishing touch to my art center to store extra materials that we don’t use every day. They easily fit dabbers, hole punchers, gel pens, paint pens, and more! The ladder comes with the 5 metal buckets seen in the photo.
3. Ikea Flisat Children’s Sensory Bin Table
The perfect way to have a low-prep and easy cleanup table. The table comes with compartments underneath the table lid where you can place Trofast storage bins to hold items. I love the way Coffee and Spitup uses the storage underneath as sensory play. They can hold larger bins or two smaller ones.
4. Ikea Kallax Bookshelves
My one Ikea item that not only do I have in my classroom but I also have in my home office. I love my Kallax bookshelves because the price and quality are unbeatable. It comes in different styles and colors but white with my wood crates from Target Dollar Spot is the perfect combination. These are the perfect shelves for a classroom library. It’s a simple Ikea classroom hack but I love how you can turn them vertical or horizontal to create a unique setup. I have even seen them used as benches by turning them horizontal with cushions/ pillows on top.
5. Ikea Pegboard
I love my pegboard in the classroom and at home because it is so versatile and custom to what you want. The pegboard comes in all different colors and sizes plus there are many accessories to add on. My top 3 favorite accessories are the three clear buckets because they slide off without the lid and hold all my small objects. Next, the shelf holds sticky notes, small fake plants, and candles. Lastly, the clips/ hooks to hang all my notes, lanyards, and pictures on.
6. Ikea Sunnersta Rail
My Bulletin Boards all have interactive pieces to them but sometimes it gets hard to store the pieces and not lose any. The Ikea Sunnersta Rail is the perfect Ikea classroom hack because it has not only helped organize my pieces but holds them right on the bulletin board itself. After drilling the rail into the board I placed the containers onto the rail to hold the months, days of the week, and numbers needed for each day. This makes it easy for my students to grab the pieces they need every day to complete calendar time efficiently.
7. The most used Ikea Classroom Hack: Trofast Bins
Sensory bins are a must in a Kindergarten Classroom because there are so many ways to incorporate play with learning. If you don’t have the sensory bin table I recommend getting a trofast storage shelf. I love hiding cards inside these bins because of how deep they are. Students love searching for cards or going on a card hunt because they have to dig for the cards. There are different shelving units to hold anywhere from 3 bins to 12bins depending on the size bins you get.
8. The easiest Ikea Classroom Hack: Lack Side Table
Primary Scouts turned her Lack Side Table into a DIY lego table with a trofast storage bin underneath. If there is one thing I love more than Ikea it is a good classroom hack that isn’t expensive. Click here to read how Primary Scouts made her table using rails she found at Lowe’s, velcro, glue, brick plates from Amazon, the side table, and a trofast bin. I also love how there was no drilling, sawing, or cutting involved, just some velcro and glue!
9. Ikea Sortera Bins
These Ikea Recycling Bins are the perfect storage solution for classrooms that have limited cabinet or closet space. This Ikea classroom hack can be used for classroom supplies, lunch boxes, and clipboards, and the bins come in different sizes that you can stack on top of each other.
10. Ikea Play Rug for Block Center
This Ikea classroom hack is the easiest to complete because all it takes is buying the rug. This rug is the best size for smaller classrooms that still want a black center. It is lightweight and it fits behind your basket or bookshelf for easy clean-up. I love placing my blocks in a basket because then when we aren’t using the center we don’t have space being taken up and the rug slides right behind it.
