How to Use Mini Erasers All Year!

One of my favorite things to do in the summer is collect all those dang mini erasers at the Target Dollar Spot! This year there were 13 different ones spotted.

There are Pencils, Globes, Ice Cream Cones, Dogs, Gum Ball Machines, Tacos, Pizza, Unicorns, Llamas, Letters, Numbers, Shapes and Rainbows. Some have been spotted in past years but most of them are new and I am living for them!

I was lucky enough to find them all and phew because if you know anything about Back to School stuff in the Dollar Spot it is gone within a matter of minutes (at least the mini erasers are lol). The ultimate jackpot is when the workers allow you to open the boxes.

(shout out to a follower for sending me 3 packs of erasers I couldn’t find).

Top Question Asked:

After posting these on my Instagram and throughout school last year the main question I received was:

“How do you use them?”

And my response was:

“How do I not use them?!”

But in all seriousness, I use them probably every day. In literacy my students have letter mats they use to fill in with mini erasers, playdough, wikki stix etc. to make the shape of the letter. Stay tuned for a freebie at the end!

Specifically, the number and letter mini erasers I use to spell out word problems or spell out sight words during small group.

I also use them in My Letter Practice Book that has inserts for those target blank books. Students make the letters using mini erasers if they want. This idea can be used for making numbers, sight words, shapes etc.

I also love to use them as math manipulatives. This is great for students to get a choice of what they want to use for counting. Whether its placing them in tens frames, using to solve addition or subtraction equations or making patterns. My students love getting different ones each time and there is enough in one bag to share (each bag from Target includes 60).

You can use as place holders during guided reading, students can cover sight words they see, words that start with a specific letter, finding punctuation etc. The ideas are endless here.

Lastly, my student love using them during bingo as place holders. We play bingo at least once a month that focus on different skills.

They each grab a drawer out of our IRIS 64 Count Drawer Cabinet pictured below to cover the words or images on their bingo sheet.

Hopefully now you are already driving to target to grab those mini erasers to complete some of these ideas in your classroom! Want some more ideas: go check out my blog post on a game for higher level thinkers.
