In this kindergarten gingerbread activity, students will crack the sentence code using their Gingerbread Key Code to help them write and read the sentence. All sentences include sight words for the beginning of Kindergarten and color words.
Step One: Hide the 6 cards around the room, they will fit inside target labels. Make enough cards for each students, partner pair or group. These cards match the sentences that they will crack.
Step Two: Pass out sentence codes and students will solve all 6. After solving the code they will go around the room and hunt for the card that matches their sentence. They will take a card to their seat, cut out the piece of the gingerbread and glue it on (the face they can draw).
Step Three: After gluing down all 5 cards (the face they draw on) they will have made a complete gingerbread. I have students do one sentence at a time and then come up to me and read it, so I am checking as I go.
Step Four: Once they have all the pieces glued down they have caught the gingerbread man and he didn’t run away.
This game is engaging for students because not only do they have a mission to complete but they get to get up and moving around the classroom.
