There’s a lot of baby stuff out there, but not all of it is worth the hype. I’ve put together a list of my favorite baby toys and everyday essentials that I’ve actually used and loved. These are items that actually get used, make routines simpler, and bring a little more ease to life with a baby.

Whether you’re shopping for a baby shower, the holidays, or just looking for something that works, this list has you covered. I’ve included a short note on why each item is a favorite and links so you can easily find them.

  1. Black Cat & White Cat Board Book: This book has always been a favorite in our house. My daughter still pulls it out, so it works for both newborns and toddlers. It’s educational, sturdy, and one of those books that actually gets used every day.
  2. Wooden Activity Center: This has been one of our go-to pieces. It grows with your baby, so you don’t feel like you’re buying something they’ll outgrow in a week. My daughter used it from tummy time through standing, and it’s still in rotation even now.
  3. Melissa & Doug Rollables: A really cute baby toy that’s soft, rolls, and comes in an adorable take-along bag. My daughter still loves it, and it’s great for little hands to explore cause and effect and practice fine motor skills.
  4. Hape Ball Run: If you want a gift that will actually get played with, this is it. My daughter can’t get enough, rolling the balls, tapping the xylophone, exploring on her own, and it has been fun to watch her figure out cause and effect along the way.
  5. LOVEVERY Play Mat: There are so many play mats out there, but I wanted one that was simple and still gave my daughter things to look at and interact with during tummy time. I love the colors and the different “play” zones.
  6. Skip Hop Activity Center: This activity center is worth every penny. I did a ton of research and this one was always at the top of my list. It has so many fun aspects like the spinning seat and all the little toys, and I love that it grows with her from seat-and-spin to cruising to a full play table.
  7. Hatch Rest Sound Machine: You know those products you end up recommending to every mom you meet? This is one of them. The light is soft, you can customize it however you want, and controlling it from your phone is super easy. We use it for naps, bedtime, and even middle-of-the-night check-ins, and it’s honestly made life so much simpler.
  8. Light Up Crawling Toy: We all love those fun baby toys that are cute and that kids naturally gravitate toward. This one encourages crawling and exploration, and it’s a toy that both babies and toddlers actually love.
  9. Baby Animals Black & White Board Book: This board book is another favorite in our house. The bold black-and-white pictures and the cute baby animals instantly grab attention.
  10. Animal Fidget Toys: We all just need those simple toys we can grab on the go, toss in the diaper bag, or keep in the car. These are perfect for a quick distraction or some independent play anywhere.
  11. Pretend Vanity Set: I couldn’t resist this one. It’s adorable and makes the perfect gift. The mirror lights up, plays fun songs and phrases about the alphabet, counting, and colors, and comes with cute accessories!
  12. Piano Kick Mat: This is a must-have. It actually gets used, and even as my daughter got older she still plays with it. It’s simple, fun, and makes a great gift.
  13. Fisher-Price DJ Table: We reach for this one constantly. It’s fun, a little noisy, and completely worth it because she actually plays with it!
  14. Wooden Animal Train: This is the cutest animal train set. The magnetic pieces click together so easily, the bright animals are adorable, and it’s a toy that both younger and older kids can enjoy.
  15. Foldable Tumbling Mat: When I needed to soften a space where my daughter could move freely, this mat was the answer. It’s foldable, easy to store, and the soft surface makes it a go‑to for playtime.
  16. Beeswax Crayons: These crayons are non-toxic and baby-safe, which is a must since little ones put everything in their mouths. The size is perfect for tiny hands!
  17. Fat Brain Busy Board: Some busy boards are clunky, but this one is the perfect size and still has all the features kids love. I’ve always loved this one, and it’s one of my favorite toys to gift.

Finding gifts for babies doesn’t have to be stressful! This baby gift guide is full of the items I reach for again and again, either for my own daughter or as gifts for friends. They’re practical, fun, and something you can feel good about giving. I hope this list helps you find something that will actually get used, loved, and maybe even become a favorite in your household, too.
